view. South Asia's love of jewellery is recorded even in the excavations that date back to the Harappan age - the sculpture of the dancing girl has countless bangles and bracelets on one arm. It would require patience and perseverance to document the last 5000 years of jewellery in the Indian sub-continent! Each era and each region has its motifs and designs - a daunting task to attempt a categorisation and classification. At the-south-asian shop we decided to simplify this task - first by eliminating all precious jewellery and confining ourselves to silver - and secondly by restricting ourselves to tribal and folk and also contemporary designs. All pieces are hand-crafted and most of these are made in Jaipur - the first city of Rajasthan in India. Some of the necklaces carry mythological symbols - peacocks, lotus, the Goddess Kali - while others such as the tribal silver bead necklace are made by traditional techniques - using wax and coating the wax beads with pure silver. Enjoy surfing these pages - and we will be happy to answer any query. Necklaces Click on images for enlarged view. Solid silver pendants with beaded ropes to go around the
