2001 Entries for the UNESCO Heritage Awards The following are the ten
entries from south Asia - nine from India and one from Sri Lanka. Winners
will be announced in September 2001.
Indian Entries Restoration of an original 19th c. building interior discovered beneath
insensitive 1970s design during routine renovation Restoration of brick façade of 1895 residence long used as office space,
coupled with upgrade/restoration of interior spaces and building services Conversion of historic family residence to multi-faceted entertainment center
Conservation of 1830s Hindu temple housing one of the finest wall paintings for Kangra tradition and Sikh School of Art as part of project highlighting the tradition of exchanges and understanding between diverse communities
Complete restoration of one of Mumbai's landmark buildings in one of the country's first projects to restore a public building using internationally accepted principles and methodologies of conservation
Restoration and structural damage repair on traditional houses and walls of a fort complex
Reconstruction, conservation and adaptive reuse of palace ruins, dating fro 1464, to self-sustaining heritage tourism property while encouraging local economic development
Full restoration of deteriorated, 17th century Indo-Portuguese style Goan
manor house in the 'cha' style using only traditional materials (Siolim

Restoration of seventy-one year old ancestral home of pioneer tea planters, now open for guests
Sri Lankan entry
Conversion of an abandoned 1935 tea factory, the most predominant building type in Ceylon's hill country, to a hotel incorporating many industrial heritage elements in the décor
