earthquake

The devastation caused by the
8 October 2005 earthquake is unprecedented in the history of Pakistan.
Official figures keep on rising and we should be prepared for around 100,000
deaths, although some estimates mention the staggering figure of 250,000 and
more. Around three million people have been rendered homeless.

Museum in Mumbai, India has been honoured with Award of
Excellence in the UNESCO 2005 Asia-Pacific heritage awards for
Culture Heritage Conservation. Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan won
the Award of Distinction.

- The missing female population of India

The sex-ratio
within the age-group 0 - 6 years is a revealing indicator of how
societies/countries treat their girls/women, and the esteem they
hold them in. Most societies in the industrialized world have a
healthy 0-6 child ratio i.e. there are roughly the same number
of girls and boys in the 0 – 6 age-group. In India however, the
rapidly declining sex-ratios are turning into a demographic
nightmare of frightening proportions.
