Heritage - Astana of Syed Mir Muhammad in Baltistan

The article...

Pakistan won the UNESCO Heritage Award of Distinction for the restoration of the 300-year old mausoleum of Syed Mir Muhammad, a locally venerated saint. The Astana, as it is locally known in the remote northern mountainous settlement of Khaplu in Baltistan, is a place of eternal rest for the saintly. The restoration work on this project, led by the Aga Khan Cultural Service in Pakistan (AKCSP), was completed in 6 months during 2000.

The article...

Wildlife conservationists who had declared the Asian elephant an endangered species back in 1959 say that its plight is worse than that of its African counterpart. Though India, which has a long history of man-elephant links, possesses the largest population of elephants estimated at around 24,000 against around 40,000 in the whole of Asia, the Indian elephant too is on its way to obsolescence.

Culture- body.city @ berlin showcases the other side of India

Starting September 19, Berlin, a city with a rich cultural heritage, will be showcasing India’s contemporary forms of expression in art, cinema, literature, theatre and music. The new generation in India is evolving a new perspective of creativity and expression, which is gradually assimilating into, and at times motivating, a growing global culture that is equally at home in the west and in the east. The House of World Cultures, Berlin, is presenting the other side of India through body.city – New Perspectives from India, a series of exhibitions, theatre productions, concerts, conferences, films, readings and youth events.
