Sisters Norah and Anoushka

Father – Ravi Shankar - the renowned Sitar virtuoso

Half-sisters Norah and Anoushka - both have been nominated for Grammy Awards this year - though in different categories - Anoushka in the BEST WORLD MUSIC ALBUM category for her 'Live at Carnegie Hall' release, and Norah in the BEST NEW ARTIST category.The Grammys will be broadcast live from Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday, February 23rd at 8 PM ET/PT.

 

NORAH JONES

Jazz singer/songwriter

Norah is Blue Note's youngest member.  Her 2002 release ‘Come Away With Me’ was her first album and an instant hit – selling 2.7 million copies

Norah grew up in Texas and attended Booker T. Washington High School for Performing and Visual Arts, in Dallas

Norah also spent two years studying piano at the University of North Texas

Nominated for Grammy in The Best New Artist category for her song "Don’t know Why"

Jones is the only artist who is a finalist in all four of the most prominent categories -- best album, record, song and new artist.

Born 1981, London

Sitar player

Educated in Encinitas, California, where she graduated from school in 1999

Trained by her father Ravi Shankar since the age of 9

Released her first solo recording ‘Anoushka’ in 1998; second album "Anourag" was released in August 2000; and her third CD; "Live at Carnegie Hall." Brought her the nomination for this year’s Grammy Awards in the BEST WORLD MUSIC ALBUM category

Also studied classical piano - at one time wanted to be a professional pianist.
